What's the big deal about water? Every single plant and animal needs it to survive — and around 60% of your body weight is made up of water. It's involved in nearly everything your body does, including how efficiently you lose weight.
How water helps with weight loss & metabolism
Staying properly hydrated supports your metabolism, helps you feel full, and stops your body confusing thirst for hunger. Often the "snack" you're reaching for is really a glass of water.
Not all drinks are created equal
Plenty of drinks deliver a surprising number of calories with very little benefit — smoothies, fruit juice, energy drinks, flavoured waters, speciality coffees, cocktails, cooldrinks, sports drinks, coconut waters and protein shakes can all add up fast. When you're watching your intake, don't drink your calories.
How much do you need?
A simple working guide is 35 ml per kilogram of body weight. So a 60 kg person needs roughly 35 × 60 = 2 100 ml — about 2.1 litres a day. Watch for signs of dehydration: headaches, fatigue, dark urine and poor concentration.
